Job Description: Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

Immediate Supervisor Title: SLP supervisor

Position Expectations:  The Speech Language Pathologist Assistants (SLPA) is employed by the agency and is responsible for providing select speech language therapy interventions in the home setting. This is performed in accordance with physician orders and plan of care (POC) under the direction and supervision of the Speech Language Pathologist (SLP).

Qualifications:

  • Education: SLPA- Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant from an accredited college or University
  • Licensure: Current Texas State License in Speech-Language Pathology, current Texas driver license.
  • Experience: One years’ experience in a pediatric setting preferred.
  • Skills: Therapy skills as defined as generally accepted standards of practice. Good interpersonal skills.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation and valid auto liability insurance.

Duties:

  • Schedule with families, plan activities and provide therapy services while following POC.
  • Record type of treatment and patient’s reaction to treatment on clinical/progress notes, which are written on the day of the visit and incorporated in the patient’s record weekly.
  • Be supervised weekly and follow guidelines for supervision as outlined by your respective state board.
  • Perform in person and telehealth visits with company platforms when necessary.
  • Applies concepts of infection control and universal precautions in coordinating/performing patient care activities to prevent contamination and transmission of disease.
  • Accepts clinical assignments that are consistent with education and competence to care for patients.
  • Uses effective interpersonal relations and communication skills; facilitates the use of these skills by other team members to achieve desirable outcomes.
  • Educate patient/family concerning patient deficits, ways to facilitate communication, and appropriate discharge plans through family members.
